We are Specialist, The Content Marketing Agency, based just off the Triangle in Bristol. We are one of Bristol’s leading creative agencies. We create engaging content across a variety of platforms for some of the world’s best-known brands, and we have fun along the way.

To support our continued digital growth, we are looking for a Senior Front End Developer to join our small, yet perfectly formed Development team.  We deliver a wide range of technical solutions to clients across many core sectors, including Aviation, Financial Services and Healthcare.  These projects range from static landing pages, to large scale fully content managed brochure sites and content hubs.  All projects consider a high level of usability coupled with an elegant and captivating design, that has been translated from the creative team’s original vision.

The technical requirements do vary from project to project, depending on the needs of our clients, but we would expect the successful candidate to possess a number of the following skills in their technical toolbox:

  • SVG
  • HTML5 animation
  • CSS3 / SASS
  • BEM and OOCSS methodologies
  • Bootstrap 4
  • JavaScript / ES5 / ES6
  • JS frameworks such as jQuery and Vue.js
  • js
  • Composer
  • YARN, NPM
  • Gulp / Grunt
  • Browserify or equivalent
  • Git / Mercurial or equivalent
  • CI / CD

 

Familiarity with JIRA, GitLab and Asana,  Umbraco, Drupal and MVC design pattern are desirable but not essential.

We are looking for someone who has experience of developing component driven and extendable front-end solutions, advanced object oriented / functional / procedural programming paradigms and commercial experience with at least one MVC framework.

You will also need to demonstrate experience of developing sites with WordPress (and other open-source Content Management Systems) and producing interfaces that maximise user experience.  You’ll need to have a full understanding of Git and version control, and extensive knowledge of browser and device compatibility and a thorough QA process, debugging as necessary along with experience of web automation and optimisation.

Your working knowledge of programming and how backend technologies integrate with frontend technologies is key, along with your ability to work with back end developers to provide an end to end solution.

You’ll use your teamwork skills, ideally gained in an Agile environment, to work with project managers and designers across multiple parallel work streams, whilst keeping your cool, estimating and and multi tasking between projects.  You’ll need to prioritise and plan your work, asking for support as needed and flagging any issues that arise within projects.  You will need to be able to communicate complex technical solutions to varying audiences and keep up to date with advances in technology in your field.
